Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving 2023

The fall holiday season is moving right along.

As much as I’d love to hit pause, it’s not going to happen, so let’s just jump right in.

As always, I tried to make Thanksgiving as low key as possible. I had bought some pies and a pumpkin roll from a fund raiser at the elementary school, and figured that would be good enough for Thanksgiving, and then was told that we NEEDED a pumpkin pie. Which is fine, I love pumpkin pies too, so the kids made one on the Wednesday they were out of school. Turns out F is really into baking and loved the whole process. And everyone loved the pie.

Thanksgiving

So apparently this turkey cheese ball is going to be an annual tradition. Which is fine because honestly I think it’s super cute and is the easiest thing to make. Half the fun of having children is having someone to get excited with about silly things like this. I honestly might have skipped it this year, but the children insisted it happen. And they eat it! Which can’t be said for much of Thanksgiving food, so I was happy to have it. They’ll probably be making it themselves by next year.

Happy Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re in the middle of a school/daycare break and staying at home for a slow Thanksgiving. We’re not going very traditional - there will be no turkey and more pies than side dishes probably, but we’ll be happy and that’s all that really matters.

We’re wishing everyone else all the favorite foods and relaxed days too, and we’ll see you on the other side with all the Christmas trees!

What Have We Missed?

On a totally out of order post, I realized I never talked about Thanksgiving! It’s not completely surprising because on my constant to do list of things I would like to be doing, somehow typing ends up at the bottom. Having two hands is a privilege I don’t often have. I’m getting more sleep lately, which is great, but it means I have less time for other things. Trade off.

But I did want to quickly mention some things to cement the memories which will certainly disappear.

Thanksgiving

We pretty much jumped over this holiday and went from Halloween to Christmas, even putting up decorations a week before Thanksgiving. I was also fully prepared to order pizza and ignore it completely, but in the end we decided to create our own small celebration. It was certainly more simple than anything we’ve experienced in the past - we didn’t even cook a turkey!

Thanksgiving

If you know me, you know that Christmas is my favorite holiday. In my opinion, there is no competition. However, my children might disagree. E is becoming all about that orange holiday otherwise known as Halloween, and we might just have found baby G’s favorite holiday. Hanging out with lots of people and eating tons of food? Yup, that sounds like him.

It Was a Good Weekend

Today's not a great day, for various reasons.  The obnoxious thing is I'm no longer certain of my own feelings - am I really upset over something, or is it being amplified by my hormones?  I used to hate it when people claimed their hormones were affecting their emotions because it seemed like BS to me.  It didn't happen to me.

Some Thoughts on Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend!  Although I spent a large chunk of it driving, it was certainly nice to have some time off of work, and to see some family members.

It's one of those holidays where it's impossible to get everyone together at once, but I think we did a pretty good job this year.

A Quiet Week

It's Thanksgiving week, which means a slower pace to life (unless of course you're in charge of cooking Thanksgiving dinner, which I thankfully am not).  Work isn't that busy, the commute is easier, and everyone is gearing up for time with family.

Tom and I still have some decorations to put out and some lights to hang up, so hopefully we'll get to that this weekend.  Other things on my to-do list are finishing my book, and maybe watching a movie?

Brief Thanksgiving Celebration, then more Christmas!

Thanksgiving was never one of those holidays that I got too excited for.  Maybe because I don't love food as much as some other people, so to me, it's just another meal? Or maybe because it feels like the one final thing standing between me and when I can officially start celebrating Christmas?
