Birthday Meow

From ladybugs to kitty cats.

Mostly I’m just picking themes that seem fun based on random things she likes, and since I didn’t feel like throwing a baby doll birthday party, cats it is! So we decorated the whole house with cats with party hats and E helped me by blowing up a lot of balloons. He was home one day with me and bored, so I threw some balloons at him and told him to figure out how to blow them up! It was actually pretty cool watching him figure out what he needed to do.

Our cats didn’t love it, though. Every night you’d find them staring with wide eyes at the stuff hanging from the ceiling. Which to be fair, did look like we’d cut a head off a cat and hung it from a string…

A Train Party

We have an almost 4 year old in our house, which means it was time for a party! G is someone who doesn’t require much to make him happy, which is great, but it also means it’s hard to do something like plan a party. If I ask him what he likes or if he has any toys he’d like, he has a hard time answering. Anything and everything can make him happy, but he’s also happy without.

Another Pandemic Birthday

Not that we would have done much different, but they are all starting to blend together a bit. Overall it was actually really nice. As we were all sitting down at the table and eating dinner together, I had a moment when I looked around and felt such contentment. I was truly enjoying myself and my family. It wasn’t stressful, I wasn’t jumping up to get something every few minutes or correcting any behavior. It was just a really nice family meal.

Toddler Speak

Our littlest toddler talks, quite a bit actually. You might not know this, because I haven’t posted recent videos, but he often speaks in full sentences now. He’s long had a large vocabulary of words, but now he’s starting to put them together more and more.

A recent favorite is to ask for us to put music on, and then ask the name of ever song that comes on. “What this song? What this song?” Over and over. Even if you just told him. And then he’ll ask the other adult in the room to confirm he gets the same answer. If you’re lucky, he’ll start dancing to it. He’s been unanimously named the best dancer of the house. When he feels a song, boy can he move!

Happy Birthday Tom!!

Happy Birthday Tom!!

Birthdays definitely look a little different during quarantine, but we’re doing the best we can. We went for a family walk to get outside, I made us some confetti brownies to celebrate, and we even have a party to go to later. Sure, it would have been more fun to go in person, but we’re still excited.

A Cake Smash That Wasn't

My boss has been telling me for a while that two children this close together will be complete opposites. (He should know, since last year he had three children in the same high school). If your first child loves to clean, get ready for your second child to never clean a thing. It doesn’t matter what it is, they’re just going to be different.

Happy Birthday Tom!

Two weeks late!

We didn't actually celebrate it late - I promise the cake was made and eaten on the actual birthday.  Which considering my size and energy level earns me a medal.  My favorite part is the candles and their multi-colored flames!  I have a video of Tom not-so-successfully blowing them out, but I'll save him the embarrassment haha

August Showers Bring...

September weddings?

I originally assumed I wouldn't have a bridal shower, and when my maid of honor asked me about it months ago, I told her I didn't want one.  Sitting in a room with all the women wedding guests playing odd games while the men are off somewhere else didn't feel like me.  However, my best friend always knows exactly what to do.  She informed me that "of course you're having a shower!" and promptly declared she would host it herself.

The Real Reason Everyone Gets Married...

FOOD TASTINGS!

A few weeks ago we had our dinner tasting with the Top of the Hub, who will be catering our reception.  I'm pretty sure it was Tom's dream come true.  We tried 6 different appetizers, different salads, first courses, and three main dishes.  Everything was so delicious, I'm not sure how I'll pick which one I want to eat on the big day!  (Or I'll just have to steal bites from everyone else's plate - come on, you know you won't say no to the bride!)
