I love a good theme.
I love crafting and creating, but coming up with ideas for things isn’t always the easiest. It takes time and energy and so when someone can give me a theme, I love it. I’ve been known to go a bit overboard, and this is maybe one of those times.
My sister said she was coming for a visit for Earth Day, and we could do some related activities with the kids. After picking on her for being very Vermont, I decided to go all in.
Sometimes I wonder what our Easter will look like ten years from now. What things will have stuck as traditions, and what things will look different? It equal parts fun and frustrating trying to decide how we celebrate our holidays each year. Is there special food that we eat? Places we visit?
This year we celebrated at home with the five of us. The kids had their matching PJs, eggs were hidden, and everyone ate a lot of candy. We did color coded eggs again, which worked pretty well for us. F was able to find all of her eggs, and she had so much fun putting them in her basket and carrying them around. E’s were the hardest to find, and took him the longest to find all of his eggs.
Okay we’re going to ignore how tired Tom and I are and how never ending life seems, and pretend life is all candy corn and pumpkin spice instead, just like my coffee.
We’ve been indulging the kids and doing all the fall activities lately. We’ve made mummy brownies and bat cookies. We’ve painted decorations, carved pumpkins and made monsters with popsicle sticks, cotton ball ghosts and Halloween sand art crafts.
I’m actually shocked that Halloween is still so far away. We’ve been leaning heavy into all the fall/Halloween activities for a while now, so I’m having a hard time believing we’ve still got over a week to go. The kids are loving it, though, and we still have a lot of fun things coming up. Now that we have three kids, I’m afraid I’ve found my weakness in matching PJs. I’ll admit it’s a bit too early to pull out the Christmas PJs, so I’m going all in with Halloween ones.
So as E tells it, “Our Easter Mouse comes and hides all the eggs!” I’m not sure when it changed from a bunny to a mouse, but either way, eggs were hidden. I saw a tip from a different mom who bought eggs in two different colors for her children, to ensure there was no fighting during the egg hunt. Of course it was after we had gotten out all of our multicolored eggs, but I figured if there was a lot of conflict this year, it could be a backup for next year.
Instead, both G and E were pretty cooperative. Tom and I had to help G a bit to make sure he was finding eggs, but if we told E that a certain egg needed to go to his brother, he was okay with it. By the end, I think the count was 15 to 19 or something like that. Close enough for me.
When I was pregnant and we'd walk through Target looking at baby clothes, Tom was always drawn to the socks. He'd talk about one day possibly having matching socks with E. Somehow when I was looking for Christmas presents this year, I stumbled upon Happy Socks and fell in love. They come in awesome designs, they have sizes (not just one size fits most) so they actually fit Tom (!), AND they have matching baby socks!!
