Again this is another thing that is probably more for me than for them, but it makes for great pictures! It’s such a fun way to really mark that one year milestone, and it’s fun to see how each child reacts to getting a huge cake all to themselves.
E was our biggest fan, digging right in to his cake and wore frosting from top to bottom. G was against it from the start and cried the whole time, especially any time the frosting got on his body. F was a bit in the middle - she LOVED the frosting, but wasn’t really into the cake.
When we gave her the cake she dug right in with both hands, and immediately put it in her mouth. She seems to really enjoy it, and was only a little confused how it was getting all over her body. Tom gave her a piece of cake at one point, which she accepted and ate, but didn’t seem interested in eating any more. It was frosting and only frosting.
Until it wasn’t - at one point she was just done, and stood up and walked away. I tried to redirect her back to the cake for a few more pictures, but she was done. She knows what she wants. So it was in the bath for the grossest, creamiest bath she’s had.

From ladybugs to kitty cats.
Mostly I’m just picking themes that seem fun based on random things she likes, and since I didn’t feel like throwing a baby doll birthday party, cats it is! So we decorated the whole house with cats with party hats and E helped me by blowing up a lot of balloons. He was home one day with me and bored, so I threw some balloons at him and told him to figure out how to blow them up! It was actually pretty cool watching him figure out what he needed to do.
Our cats didn’t love it, though. Every night you’d find them staring with wide eyes at the stuff hanging from the ceiling. Which to be fair, did look like we’d cut a head off a cat and hung it from a string…
