Hi! Still here!
We’ve been feeling like we can’t catch up lately. Lack of sleep or extra things to do or who knows, but our to do list is piling up and nothing is getting crossed off fast enough. Which means that even though I probably have cute stories to tell, my brain is so foggy I can’t remember them.
Anyway, here’s a quick update on the tiny humans. As cute as ever, keeping us as busy as ever.
Baby G has decided that since his first birthday is coming right up, he would no longer like to be a baby, and this toddler thing seems great. He has stared babbling like crazy, entering the phase I loved with E. He’ll look at something, point to it, and tell you a whole story in his own language. And then he’ll look at you with these big eyes because he completely expects you to understand. Which I feel like I do, in the moment.
He’s also figured out clapping and waving lately, and boy is he THRILLED. He loves that he can do something and immediately make an entire room of people copy him. Dimples out, giggling, he’ll do it over and over.
He’s also working on the teeth thing. As in there may be 6 in his mouth right now? Which combined with an ear infection made for one angry baby last weekend, and no sleep for anyone. But I think we’re feeling better which is good, because we’ve got a big week coming up!
E has been working on forming strong opinions about everything lately. Currently dogs make him nervous (even ones he previously loved), he refuses to touch snow, and baby G should not be allowed near any of his toys (and they’re all his toys). He’s still in love with orange, Cookie Monster and Bert, and all things Christmas or cooking. However if any of his favorite things aren’t immediately produced, he’ll tell you his very strong feelings about them.
In general, his emotions are pretty at the surface lately. He has days where he’s just a little off and wants extra cuddles or naps, and there are days he’s bouncing off the walls with energy. Tears come faster, anger comes faster, but they all disappear just as quickly.
Overall his personality is very sweet and reserved. He’s deeply caring and loves to help out around the house, often asking if we can clean or do laundry, and he’ll start crying if I tell him all the clothes are clean. He loves to help out with baby G - he’ll grab him a pacifier if he’s crying, he’s in charge of turning on and off the sound machine at the beginning or end of naps, and has recently found joy in feeding G meals. He’ll request that their high chairs touch each other so that he can reach over and either offer food, or put a spoon of something into G’s mouth.
They often hold hands, touch foreheads, or play alongside each other, often cracking up while they do. A few days ago the daycare teachers were joking with him that they wanted to take baby G home and E was insistent that they couldn’t, because baby G was HIS baby.
So off we went down the hall to the infant room to collect his baby, only when we got to the room, no one was there. E freaked out that one of the teachers must have taken his baby! Turns out they were low on kids that day, so his room had combined with another, and we soon collected our baby, but E was a bit upset until we were safely on our way home.
