15 months, time for an update?
We just had check up day (Tom took E to the pediatrician while I had my 24 week appointment!) and it's been a few months, so it seemed like a good time to document where we are.
We've had some rough times lately, mostly around those pesky teeth, but mostly E is a very happy kid. It doesn't take much to absolutely delight him. Any new experience, object he's never seen, or chance to be outside will make his day.
He's still a toddler and definitely has an abundance of feelings that come on strong and frequent, but for the most part we're dealing with them. There's not much that a hug, food, or sleep can't fix. It's hard because we don't have a lot to compare him against (at least not yet), but he seems like a pretty happy kid, and although we're exhausted at the end of the day, it's usually a good feeling.
E loves to laugh. If Tom and I happen to start laughing about something, he'll join in. Which then leads to more laughter as we laugh at the fact he's laughing because we're laughing. It's honestly the best thing, and it happens all the time, and explains his personality so much.
He has a bit of a mischievous side to him. He likes to steal things he thinks you don't want him to steal (which is why I show no reaction to him running off with my phone, but will pretend to be upset if he runs off with a wooden spoon), he loves to "lock us out" by closing the baby gates on us, and laughs as he watches our reactions. And his favorite thing to do is what we call "Make an uh-oh!" If you ask E if he wants to make an uh oh, he'll start giggling and run off and grab his stacking cups. Some days he'll throw them all at once on the floor making a huge crashing noise as we all exclaim "UH OH!" Other days he'll be more methodical, throwing each cup one at a time as we "uh oh" each one. Every day when he wakes up. As soon as we get home from daycare. Multiple times a day he'll do this.
He continues to defy "normal" for kids, and still refuses to sleep in the car. He doesn't scream or make us stop anymore, but instead will just sit there and stare at us for 3 hours straight while not sleeping, no matter how tired he is. The good news is that he still loves his crib, and sleeps awesome in there as long as the kitty doesn't wake him up. So if anyone wonders why we lock the baby in his room at night with a baby gate, it's actually to keep the cat out, since she LOVES to wake him up in the middle of the night or during a nap.
He may only have 2 words at his disposal, but he uses them non stop. Every car that goes by, every living creature he spots no matter how far away, gets a "hi!" and a wave. He still loves to give high fives, and I've named him the mayor of daycare, since we aren't allowed to leave until he's greeted every single staff member with a hi and a high five. They'll come running out of the office, greet him from across the playground, and stop us for a short conversation. It's truly his happy place.
Overall we're quite thrilled with this kid (so much we're doing it again!). Our doctor has no concerns with him, he's well adjusted and does well at daycare, and we can't wait to see what he'll do next! Thanks for keeping life fun, Bubba!
