Our town puts on a carnival every 4th of July called fun on the 4th, although this year oddly enough it happened the last week of June. Besides being confusing, it meant we missed it while we were on vacation. So we went looking for our own fun during our long weekend. E told me that they didn’t mind, though, because vacation was way better.
We hung out with friends on the actual 4th and went to a parade in search of candy. The candy was a little stingy this year, but enough to keep the kids happy. What did not keep the kids happy were all the guns they shoot off in the parade - some right in front of us. Are those really necessary? I could definitely do without them.
It’s been unbearably hot every day here lately, and this day was no different, so we went to get ice cream after. You know it’s hot when ice cream doesn’t even cool you down. I eventually sent Tom for those giant containers of lemonade that they always sell at street fairs. THAT was what we needed. I swear they were more popular than the ice cream.
Friday we headed to the beach with our same friends, even though it was pouring when we woke up. The radar claimed it was going to clear up (and it eventually did), and it guaranteed us a pretty empty beach! The kids all ran around, played in the sand, and ate lots of snacks. We’re still figuring out the best way to leave the beach and get changed while not being sandy and miserable, but we’re working on it.
The next day we checked out our first Home Depot craft. It was adorable and a mess all at once. What else would you expect when you hand a bunch of kids hammers and just let them go to town?! Luckily we brought headphones (for me too!) and honestly it turned out pretty cool. Maybe we’ll attempt again?
We ended the weekend with a trip to the movies, and we were all pretty exhausted by then. 4 day weekends are not for the weak haha. We were all ready for a completely normal week.
