Kick off Fall

I think it’s finally starting to feel like fall here. The leaves have been changing and falling for a while, and pumpkins have been out, but when everyone’s still wearing shorts, it’s hard to get in the mood. But finally we looked at the calendar and said it was time. Saturday was our town’s 2nd annual fall fest. We’re still trying to get the hang of it, and always leave feeling like we were a bit confused and not sure we made the most of the day. We ate some food that was not as great as we were expecting, and tried the bounce houses but found them too crowded and aggressive, and waited in a line for far too long for a train ride (that at least everyone said was fun!) We saw a lot of people that we knew, but the whole thing was so crowded and frenzied, that it felt hard to actually hold a conversation. We rushed by booths and were constantly trying to get to one place or another.

So the next day we went with something we knew - apple picking at a farm we’ve been at before with our favorites. Although we’ve been here many times, it’s still big enough that we were able to have new experiences and ran out of time to do things we’ve done before. We played on the playground, but skipped most of the animals this time. We picked apples in a new to us orchard, and had fun using the picking tool that we’d never tried before (and had varying levels of success with it). We actually went home with apple varieties we like, and hopefully not too many this year. The kids ran around, we ate apples, and enjoyed being together.

Since we’re no longer racing home for naptime (due to a stubborn crib jumper who won’t nap in her big kid bed), we were able to stay longer and try the cow train. Although we were a bit nervous, the kids all enjoyed it. I did too! F was a bit too small go to on her own, and I was nominated to take her. I was only worried once that we’d fall over.

So fall is officially here, we have apple crisp at home that none of the kids will eat, but at least we had fun!
