Legoland

When we realized we had a 4 day weekend for Easter, it felt like we should go somewhere. We’re at an age where travel is almost easier than staying home! Gone are the days we were afraid to leave the house. Now if we stay home it’s more likely the house will get destroyed.

We’d been tossing around the idea to try Legoland NY for a while, since we’re big into Lego in this house. And then just days after Tom and I were discussing it, the kids came home and asked if we could go. It seemed like a sign and so off we went.

We did an egg hunt at home the weekend before we left, so we still had a mini Easter, and then we roadtripped towards NY.

Driving onto the property was amazing. The hotel looks like it’s built out of Lego, and there are giant dragons and other statues everywhere. When we walked into the lobby the first thing we saw was a giant Lego castle with Lego building areas. The rooms and floors of the hotel are all themed and the elevators play music and have disco balls. Everything was fun and amazing and we loved every second of it.

Our room was castle/knight themed, and the first thing you do when you enter is have a scavenger hunt through the room to be able to open a safe that held Lego kits for the kids. The kid’s room had a 3 layer bunk bed with a TV that played the Lego movies non stop and more Lego building areas. We could have spent the weekend just happy in the hotel, but we also had tickets for 2 days at the theme park!

The first day we were very overwhelmed, despite doing a lot of research and talking to people who had been there before. We spent a lot of time figuring out what rides we liked, and climbing A LOT of stairs. The park is built into the side of a mountain and because we found ourselves going back and forth between rides and food stands and character meet and greets, we went up and down and up and down again.

The second day I felt we had a better plan and were more relaxed because we’d seen the park and knew what we liked. We wore out matching shirts, took lots of pictures and built lots of Lego! It was a super fun trip and the kids ask daily if they can go back!
