19 Weeks
Since I’m super old now, I went to the specialists at Tufts for my anatomy scan. Or the same exact place I went for my previous two pregnancies, since both of those were high risk. I even saw the same doctor, which is more than I can say for my OBs during the three pregnancies.
The new part this time, though, was the genetic counseling beforehand. Family history plus some extra testing gives them a better picture of what they should be looking for, but mine was pretty boring. It was more exciting just to be interacting with people. It’s the most people I’ve seen or been in a room with in over a year. Weird but also normal. And normal is not a feeling I get much lately, so masks and all, I’ll take it.
The scan itself went awesome as well. This is officially my most cooperative baby. Both E and G’s anatomy scans were well over an hour because they had to keep trying to coax them to move or show them different views. This baby was super cooperative, and so it only took about 20 minutes. And the best news? My placenta is where it’s supposed to be! Woohoo! First time ever! (Also great news that baby is healthy).
So even though everything went perfectly, I’m still in the high risk category, just because of my age. So that means I’ll have another scan at 32 weeks to check growth. Exactly like I had for G, just for different reasons this time. (G had a marginal cord insertion on his placenta which lead to growth concerns, which is hilarious now, since he was always a healthy size).
Overall a great day, and I got plenty of pictures printed to show E & G when they get home. At this point we’ve talked about how I’m carrying and growing the baby, and I tried to explain that today we’d get some funny looking pictures. We’re going slow and steady with information, and so far both kids seem somewhere between happy and indifferent. We’ll take it!
