Let's Kick off Christmas
As we do, we started the Christmas season off early this year. I used to have a strict, wait until after Thanksgiving rule, but it’s definitely been relaxed lately. We still don’t have any Christmas trees up, but there are wrapped presents in my house, decorations are ready to go up soon, and we’ve done a few holiday events already. Speaking of those, we’ve had some hits and misses.
One of the hits for me at least, was visiting Santa! The older two are always a bit confused about why we’re doing it, and claim they don’t want to go, but I swear they have a lot of fun once we’re there. E jumped right in on signing his name to the “nice list” book they had, and then did G’s name too while G was warming up to everything. But soon they were both chatting with Santa, posing for pictures, and of course telling their life stories. (Also you know if I skipped it one year, I’d get two children yelling at me and asking why we didn’t do it).
The baby, though? It was a bit of a miss for her. She wasn’t thrilled. We managed to get a few photos, some funny, some normal, and then back into Tom’s arms she went. We also pulled out the matching PJs for the day which always makes my heart happy.
A big miss? A holiday market stroll we tried to do. It was billed as something with free food samples, interactive holiday decor and live entertainment along with a festival of trees. We went, and it was none of that. First off, it was the coldest I’ve ever been, and even with all the warm clothes, hats and jackets, we were all freezing. There was no food, just a few signs and a cornhole board made of ice. A half empty tent of trees in the parking lot didn’t do it either.
The kids melted, we melted, and we tried to salvage it with a trip to Panera for cookies. It was a failure, but you’ll have some of those.
We have other things coming up Thanksgiving weekend that I’m excited for, so hopefully we’ll redeem ourselves!
