Life With EFG

Vacation Week

So our lovely daycare decided to close for a week, with not a ton of notice, which meant there weren’t a lot of options for us. All vacation homes within a few hour drive were booked or too expensive or missing something essential. So instead of meeting my parents at the beach somewhere, we decided to just head to Vermont. Honestly the kids probably enjoy Vermont better than the beach anyway. There are tractors and land to run around on, and they can eat all my dad’s peas from his garden.

It’s also a bit cool to walk around my hometown with my children - it’s a bit of a mind trip, but fun. Obviously they don’t really care (yet at least) but it’s odd to be in places I was in as a kid, now with my own. At least they seem to approve of the maple creemees - that’s pretty non negotiable.

It was also fun to have a playdate with the children of someone I used to play with when we were the ages of E and G now. They have two little girls, one 4 months younger than E, and one that just turned a year old. E was totally smitten and loved having a baby around. He followed her around, gave her toys, entertained her, and mostly just had the biggest smile on his face. I think he’s totally ready to be a big brother again. G meanwhile was a little wary, which is how he’ll probably react to a new baby.

I had an ultrasound at the end of the week, so we had to be back for that, but honestly the kid’s were getting pretty spent at that point. They’re such sleep machines, and it’s great, but they don’t do well when it gets messed up for too long. Tantrums increase, as do random melt downs, arguments, etc. I swear they slept for days when we got home. Passed out. (A sign of a good vacation?)

The ultrasound was a bit funny - they were running behind or something. I see the specialists from Tufts, so they’re usually pretty on it, but not only were they running 40 minutes late this day, the doctors weren’t reviewing ultrasounds or doing consults at all. So I’m still waiting for a phone call from a doctor who apparently was going to review the images off site. It was just an ultrasound to make sure my extremely old age isn’t restricting baby’s growth at all, so I’m not too concerned. Baby looks to be about average from what I could tell (I’ve gotten pretty good at reading certain things after so many of these things!) and head down, so seems successful to me.
