This month has gone a lot slower than the last one, maybe because Tom was back to work and I was home alone more. That being said, the actual days go by quickly and I feel like I never have time to get anything done or eat or rest and suddenly it’s time to head to daycare. Which is maybe why I find us staying home most days, because I don’t really have a ton of extra time to kill. I could go to the baby friendly movie, but all it does is make me tired and use up all our alone time.
I will say that I feel like the fog of newborness has lifted a bit, and we’ve settled into some routines, as hectic as they may be. I still don’t feel like I know you very well, though. I know you’ve changed a lot this month though - you’re much bigger, and cuter, and you’ve lost your old man wrinkly look. You’re much more round and “typical” baby. You still make all kinds of faces and can go from happy and smiling to angry with furrowed eyebrows in seconds. But I don’t feel like I know you. Not yet.
For as big as you are, and as much as you eat, you’re still a pretty lazy eater. I spend a lot of time convincing you to finish a bottle, or to eat at all, some times. You’re mostly pretty calm and give us plenty of warning before you freak out. It starts will small grunts and snorts, and then will escalate to low cries and whines for a while before you will suddenly flip a switch and release the LOUD and panicked cry. I appreciate the patience and warnings, because sometimes I don’t have the extra hands. It also means that you don’t get really upset that often, because I can fix whatever you’re upset about before you reach that point. I hope it’s a good compromise for both of us.
Your hair is still crazy, but it bothers me less now, and is actually kind of endearing. It’s yet to be seen how much of the color you’ll keep, but we’ve decided there is definitely red in there. I’m keeping my fingers crossed you’ll end up a full blown red head, but more likely you’ll just have a red tint like me and your brother (although it does seem redder than either of ours).
You prefer to sleep in our arms, but you’re pretty good at sleeping anywhere. You like your pacifier, but you’d also like to be able to suck your thumb. Too bad you can’t figure out how to unclench your fists first. Overall you’re fitting in pretty good and are just kind of along for the ride. I think we’re all just waiting to see what things will be like and who you’ll be!
